Junior Livestock Loan Program

Loan Program Information
Presented by: The Tucson Rodeo Foundation, Inc. (“TRF”)
Typical Loan Amounts:
Goats – $100 – $300
Lambs – $250 – $500
Swine – $600 – $1000
Steers – $1000 – $5000
Purpose
To support youth by providing low interest loans to assist with the purchase and care of livestock and feed for junior livestock auctions. Targeting participants generally between the ages of 8 and 18, the program reduces financial barriers while advancing agricultural education, personal responsibility, and entrepreneurial skills. Through hands-on experience with large animals such as cattle, swine, lambs, and goats, participants develop practical knowledge in animal husbandry, financial management, ethics, and business practices, while strengthening connections among families, agricultural organizations, and the broader community.
Applicants must be involved in, or will soon be involved in, 4-H and/or FFA. Must complete an online application to be signed by applicant and parent or guardian. Application includes submitting a project proposal, outlining the loan amount needed and their plan for the use of the loan proceeds. These items will be reviewed by the TRF to determine approval of a loan. Upon approval of the loan, the applicant and parent or guardian must sign a Loan Agreement outlining the specifics of the loan. When these are completed and approved, the loan proceeds will be disbursed directly to the livestock and feed vendors.
